Foreword
" Roscoe's settlers are long gone and few remain
who were here before 1900. We can only imagine the past
based on stories and letters handed down through the
years, or by poring over faded photographs and fragile
glass negatives stored in dusty attics and musty cellars.
THE STORY OF ROSCOE written by Florence Shugars in 1987
gave us knowledge of the past and it is hoped that these
photos will provide further insight and a clearer picture
of earlier years. Many Thanks to all who have lent
priceless photographs, time, and support to this
time?consuming project. Thanks also to the Roscoe Lions
Club for underwriting the publishing expense and turning
a dream into reality. Special Thanks to Frank Bubser and
his large collection of glass negatives and sense of
history, to Florence Shugars; and Lenore Warner for their
photo albums and recollections, and to Norman Cummings
and Virginia McDonald Gummow for help in developing
prints. A debt of gratitude is also owed to my
grandfather, Frank Sturtevant, his sister, Hattie S.
Wiggins, Mary Fyler, and other unknown photographers who
recorded the scenes and people of long ago with
cumbersome cameras and limited equipment."
I have a copy of this publication and will try to answer
questions about the indexed items.
