Hannah Benedict Cross and William
Hannah (AKA Susannah) BENEDICT was born on 21 July 1812 in
Nassau, Rensselaer, NY, first child of
Jacob Benedict and

Hannah BENEDICT and Robert John
CROSS were married on 18 Sep. 1836 in Nassau, Rensselaer, NY,
(or, in Perington, Monroe, NY) . Robert John CROSS (son of Rev.
John CROSS and Margaret HANNA) was born on 1 Oct 1803 in
Newburgh, Orange, NY. He died on 15 Feb 1873 in Roscoe, Winnebago
Co., IL.
(I am curious about how Robert and Hannah first became
acquainted.)
Hannah was a founding member of
Roscoe Congregational Church when organised on November
28th,1843.
Hannah BENEDICT and Robert John CROSS had the following
children:
- John CROSS was born on 2 Nov. 1837 in Roscoe, Winnebago Co.,
IL, in log house on River. He died
on 22 Jul. 1917 in probably Iowa.
- Margaret Louise CROSS was born on 21
Apr. 1839 in Roscoe, Winnebago Co., IL. She died on 18 Oct. 1918
in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.
- William Hanna CROSS, Rev. was born on 22 Jul. 1842 in Roscoe,
Winnebago Co., IL, in log house on River.
He died on 2 Jun. 1912 in Berkley, Calif.

Winnebago Co., IL. She died on 1 Sep. 1851 in Roscoe, Winnebago
Co., IL.
- Lewis B. CROSS was born on 31 Oct. 1851 in Roscoe, Winnebago
Co., IL. He
died on 5 Apr. 1931 in Wood River, Hall, Neb.
The 1880 Roscoe, IL census shows Hannah Cross, (mother, age 67), living with her daughter's family, Margaret McAffee.
The table contains a note on the underside of the top drawer,
"This table has mahogany veneer -- drop leaf stand with two
drawers -- bought in the late 1850's by Great Grandmother
Cross".
I think the table was taken to Chicago by her daughter Margaret L
Cross McAffee when she moved there to live with daughters
following the death of her husband James.
This is what I found in City Directories and Census data-
- In 1880 Roscoe Census, Hannah Benedict Cross, mother, living with James McAffee Family.
- In 1900 Margaret L McAffee was living with James McAffee in
Roscoe
- In 1902 Margaret L McAffee, widow of James, was living at
2530 N 44th ave in Chicago and her son-in-law Ernest I Worcester
was living at 2520 N 44th ave, Chicago.
- n 1910 Margaret McAffee, widow of James, was living with
Peter Ralston at 4328 Lowell Ave, Chicago
- In 1911 Margaret McAffee, widow of James, was living with
Peter Ralston at 4328 Lowell Ave, Chicago
