John Belden, the younger son of Richard Belden was born in Yorkshire, England, possibly Kippax, on 4 February 1630/31. He died 27 June 1677, age 46, according to Wethersfield. Connecticut records.

It was this John Belden's several and distinct autographs in Wethersfield land records that prompted one of his descendants, the Reverend Joshua Belden, to restore the spelling of the family name to Belden.

John Belden married in Wethersfield 24 April 1656, Lydia Standish, probably the daughter of Thomas and Sussane Standish. Their children, all born in Wethersfield, were;

1) John, born 12 June 1658.

+2) Jonathan, born 21 January 1660. He married in Wethersfield 10 December 1685 Mary Wright, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Chittenden Wright by Capt. Samuel Talcott.

3) Joseph, born 23 April 1663.

4) Samuel, born 3 January 1664/65.

5) Sarah, born 31 March 1668.

6) Daniel, born 12 October 1670.

7) Ebenezer, born 8 January 1672/73.

8) Lydia, born March 1675.

9) Margaret, born 29 March 1677.
